Holy Week Ideas

04/03/2020

Hey everyone! Here are some ideas for how to have a blessed and powerful Holy Week even though we're at home this week!

Palm Sunday

This is the day Jesus triumphantly entered into Jerusalem riding on a donkey, and people laid palms before him, crying out, "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest" (Matthew 21:9).

IDEAS

- Watch Palm Sunday mass as a family at home. 8am Spanish mass and 10am English mass will be livestreamed on the MHT facebook page Link- https://www.facebook.com/pg/MHTCatholicChurch/videos/?ref=page_internal

Holy Thursday

At the Last Supper on Holy Thursday, Jesus instituted the sacraments of the Eucharist and the priesthood. He washed the apostles feet and celebrated the mass for the first time. Then Jesus had his agony in the garden and surrendered to God's will. (Matthew 26:17-56)

IDEAS

- Watch Holy Thursday mass live that evening on the MHT Facebook page.

- Wash your family's feet!

- "Stay awake" for one hour and pray with Jesus like his apostles tried to do. You can read John 13-17 because this is what Jesus said to his apostles at the Last Supper.

Good Friday

This is the day Jesus suffered and died for all of our sins. It is because of what Jesus did that we have the chance to go to Heaven. Jesus revealed to St Brigid that he suffered 5,475 wounds on Good Friday.

IDEAS

- Fr Mike Schmitz's powerful talk about Jesus' suffering and death // Link: https://soundcloud.com/bulldogcatholic/032518-sign-your-name

- Fast (no meat, only one regular meal + two small snacks)

- Pray the Stations of the Cross: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoIUsTetlL0

Holy Saturday

Jesus is in the tomb. On this day, like we say in the Creed, Jesus "descended to the dead." He went to all  of those who had died and were righteous. They were not condemned to Hell, but they were unable to go to Heaven yet because Jesus had not yet died and risen. Jesus went to all those who were dead and righteous to bring then to Heaven. It is ONLY because of Jesus' death and resurrection that we can go to Heaven.
